About The Firm
The Cochran Firm – Metairie was founded by senior partner Jeffrey A. Mitchell, one of the hand-picked partners of the late Johnnie L. Cochran, Jr. (1937-2005), pictured above. In the period since The Cochran Firm - Metairie, was founded, it has been established as not only one of the premier medical malpractice practices in New Orleans and the State of Louisiana, but also in the country. The firm has been recognized as a Bar Registry Firm by Martindale-Hubbell, one of America's most exclusive directories of law firms. Only law firms whose partners maintain an AV rating, (the highest rating possible for a lawyer), can apply to become Bar Registry Firms. Moreover, Mr. Mitchell was one of the first 12 attorneys in Louisiana to attain board certification in medical malpractice by the American Board of Professional Liability Attorneys.
With offices located in the beautiful high rise Galleria Building in Metairie, The Cochran Firm - Metairie, is conveniently located just minutes from downtown where Civil District Court, The Louisiana Supreme Court, the United States Federal Courts and the Louisiana Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit are located.

Mr. Mitchell has over 20 years of experience handling medical malpractice cases on behalf of injured patients. In addition to Mr. Mitchell, Deborah E. Lavender is a partner in the firm. Ms. Lavender has over 24 years of experience exclusively handling medical malpractice cases.
Mr. Mitchell and Ms. Lavender are frequent lecturers and have published numerous articles and papers on a wide variety of medical malpractice issues. The firm is also proud of the positions its members have held in the Louisiana Association for Justice. Both Mr. Mitchell and Ms. Lavender have had the honor to chair the medical malpractice section of the Louisiana Association for Justice. Mr. Mitchell also Chairs the Medical Malpractice Section for the Cochran Firm, U.S.A. Mr. Mitchell is also a member of the Executive Committee of the Louisiana Association for Justice.
Dr. Francis C. Evans, FACS, is a consulting physician with the firm. Dr. Evans is a Harvard trained, board certified surgeon with more than 30 years of experience in multiple areas of surgery including without limitation, orthopedic surgery, gynecological surgery, cancer surgery and vascular surgery. Dr. Evans has been licensed to practice medicine in 5 states. Dr. Evans will consult on all medical issues a client may need with particular emphasis on medical malpractice cases. Dr. Evans will review and evaluate potential cases and assist with medical consulting during trials.
Dr. Gloria Sanchez Quintero is also a consulting physician on staff with the firm. Dr. Sanchez is a pathologist, who was trained at the premier medical school in Panama. She is bilingual and provides expert consulting services to the firm.
